Shelly Christensen is a lifelong resident of the St. Croix Valley. She was raised in Marine on the St. Croix and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1973. She got her teaching degree from the University of Wisconsin River Falls and has a master’s degree in education. Her daughter (Megan) and two grandsons (Bayley and Mason) live in Stillwater. Megan is a paraprofessional in the special education area at the Stillwater Junior High. Bayley is a sophomore at the high school and Mason is in the 7th grade at the middle school.
Shelly and her husband (Scott) are retired teachers. Scott taught biology at the high school and Shelly taught English; they are still coaching runners in District 834. They have organized and lead youth summer programs in Stillwater for decades and have had an impact on thousands of lives in the district.
The Christensens are committed to civic engagement. Scott is on the Stillwater Park Board. Shelly was on the advisory board for the 20 year Stillwater Comprehensive Plan through the Stillwater Planning Commission and is on the board of the DFL Environmental Caucus. She is also on the board of the St. Croix Valley Women’s Alliance, a large group of activists that strive to educate and engage citizens in civic and political activism.
Shelly has decided to run for this position because her friends and neighbors feel they are not represented by Kathy Lohmer. Shelly vows to be accessible, visible and eager to listen her constituents and advance policy that works for people, not just corporations and donors. Shelly is a friend and neighbor and is thrilled to have the opportunity to serve her beloved community and state. She is thankful for the tremendous collective enthusiasm and support in her run for the State House District 39B in 2018.
